CM reviews supply, distribution of essential commodities

Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah has underscored the need for streamlining essential commodities’ supply in the distribution mechanism to ensure availability of subsidized ration in all areas of the State. “Needy, poor and comparatively scarce places should be flagged as thrust areas,” he said.

The Chief Minster was reviewing availability of food-grains and its distribution by CAPD department, at a high-level meeting here today.

Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs, Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather, Minister for CA&PD and Transport, Mr. Qamar Ali Akhoon, Minister of State for CA&PD and Transport, Mr. Shabir Ahmad Khan and senior officers of CA&PD and Finance Departments attended the meeting.

Mr. Abdullah said effective mechanism and proper monitoring system should be put in place to regulate availability and distribution of subsidized food- grains to the people, especially to the poor and needy.

It was stated in the meeting that under the Chief Minister’s directions, two monitoring cells at Lower Munda and Rajbagh in Kathua have started functioning from July 10, 2009 to monitor movement of trucks loaded with food-grains and eliminate any chance of malpractice.
