Dy CM for promoting low cost building technology

*Modern housing colony coming up at Rail Head Nowgam



With a view to provide better housing facilities to the people, Government is planning to develop a modern housing colony at Rail Head Nowgam. About 1400 kanals of land have already been notified for the purpose. In addition a model township is also being developed at Rakh gund Aksha near Srinagar for which about 4200 kanals of land has already been transferred to Srinagar Development Authority. The township will be developed under Public-Private partnership. One more mini housing colony is being developed at Bemina at a cost of about Rs. 12.94 crore. An amount of Rs. 2. 80 crore have already been spent on the project.

Stating this here today, Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Tara Chand who is also incharge Housing and Urban Development Department said that some new housing colonies are also proposed to be developed at Noorbagh and Summerbugh area of Srinagar to rehabilitate displaced families of River Jehlum.

Deputy Chief Minister said, in Jammu also, a housing colony for economically weaker sections of the society is being developed at Udheywala under State plan. The work on construction of roads and drains for the colony is in progress. He said work on one more such colony at Ploura Jammu has also been taken up at a cost of Rs. 20.00 lakhs. In addition, it is also proposed to develop two housing colonies for economiacally weaker sections and low income group people at Gole Gujral and Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu comprising of about 300 plots of 40 x 20 sqft. and 128 plots of 50 x 25 sqft. size respectively. These housing colonies are estimated to cost about Rs. 4.20 crore and Rs. 1.43 crore respectively, Mr. Tara Chand added. He said about Rs. 3.50 crore are proposed to be spent on these colonies both in Srinagar and Jammu during the current financial year.

He said efforts are being made to promote and develop low cost technology for construction of building in urban area. For this purpose, two buildings centres one each at Jammu and Srinagar have been set up, he added.
