CJ appreciates role of lok Adalats in justice delivery system
Lauding the role of Lok Adalats in the justice delivery system particularly delivering justice to poor and down trodden sections of the society, Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah said government would make every effort to strengthen the infrastructure of judiciary in the state. Mr. Omar Abdullah was addressing the concluding function of Mega Lok Adalat organized by J&K State Legal Service Authority at SKICC here today.Chief Justice, JK High Court, Justice Barin Ghosh, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar, Chairman J&K State Legal Services Authority, Justice N.A. Kakroo, Justice Virendra Singh, Judges and other judicial officers besides Advisors to Chief Minister, Mr. Mubarak Gul and Mr. Devendra Rana, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai were present on the occasion. Mr. Omar Abdullah said that institution of Lok Adalats satisfies the essence of famous quotations “justice delayed is justice denied and justice should not only be done but seen to be done” as the lok Adalats provide for quick justice delivery system in an amicable manner. Responding to the suggestions putforth by Chief Justice regarding strengthening of lok Adalats and institutions of mobile lok Adalats, the Chief Minister said that same shall be considered by his government on top priority. He said that there is need to widen the legal services network beyond the present tehsil level so that people get justice at their doorsteps. The Chief Minister said that the government shall seriously put into practice the suggestions put forth by the justice N.A. Kakroo which will help in the advancement of the system of lok Adalats. His government shall set up permanent offices of Legal Services Authorities at Jammu and Srinagar at the earliest possible opportunity. He conveyed appreciation to Justice Kakroo and his team for successfully holding the lok Adalats which have proven very popular among the people. Earlier, in his welcome address Justice N.A Kakroo, Chairman J&K Legal Service Authority highlighted the difficulties by the Legal Services Authorities in view of inadequate infrastructure. He suffered the mechanism for management of frantically beckoning for setting up lok Adalats on permanent and continuous basis. Justice Barin Ghosh in his address said that lok Adalats have settled 9933 cases of various natures and awarded compensation of Rs. 10.84 crore which is a very healthy sign. He sought intervention of Chief Minister and Law and Justice Minister in making the institution of lok Adalats as one of the best in the country. Justice Virender Singh presented vote of thanks on the occasion.
