Central Excise goes online in J&K



The Department of Central Excise & Service Tax has launched ACES (Automation of Central Excise & Service Tax), a workflow based application software in Customs and Central Excise Commissionerate J&K. The launch of this system will directly benefit the Central Excise Tax payers of the state.

Mr Parminder Singh Sodhi, Commissioner, Customs & Central Exercise J&K, while launching the software, stated that this centralized web enabled software will eventually replace the current mode of manual filing of returns, seeking refund/rebate of taxes, obtaining various permissions & approvals from the department and dispute resolution by an electronic interface. ACES is a mission more project of the government of India under the national e-governance plan. It will enable the assessees to obtain registration under Centre Excise/Service Tax online, to electronically file statutory returns, claims, intimations etc. and view and track the status of these documents online. It has features to generate business related alerts and messages.

He also said under the Information Technology consolidation project, it is proposed to connect all the Central Excise, Customs & Service Tax offices across the country through a wide area network and provide linkages to other stake holders like custodians, banks, DGFT and Income Tax Department for validation and online clearances. With the roll-out of ACES, the taxpayer’s time and cost in complying with the efficiency of the department.

Taxpayers can also learn about the system and manner of its operation by accessing a very user friendly learning Module Software (LMS) on the ACES website i.e www.aces.gov.in. ACES has already been launched successfully in 80 Commissionerates in the country.

The function was well attended by officers of state Administration, various associations and members of trade and industry.
