Minority Forum demands reservation

Criticizing the government, Minorities Rights Forum said that the Buddhists, Sikhs and Christians who have been declared as minority communities at the national level under the National Commission for Minorities Act 1992 should be declared minorities in this state also.

It also said that these communities should be provided reservations to safeguard the legal, political and social rights of the minority communities including Kashmiri Pandits, Sikhs, Christians and Buddhist.

It was demanded that the constitution of the state be accordingly amended to give due minority status and rights to the Hindus, Sikhs, Budhhistas and Christians of the state and safeguard their interests. In a seminar today to mark the United Nations Minorities Right Day the speakers seek justice against the discriminations and deprivations suffered by minority groups in the state. The forum demanded that the state must fulfill its commitment and set up a state Minority commission to safeguards their rights. The Rev. Bishop Peter Celestine was the Chief Guest while Tagdon Rimpochy president All Gumpa Association was the Guest of Honour on occasion and Dr, KN Pandita presided over the function. Others who were present on the occasion included S Suchwant Singh, Ex-Director Agriculture J&K State, S S Anand Lehar, Tashi Rabstan, Warris Gill and Prof G.K Muju.
